THE ALCON ACRYSOFT TORIC IOL                     THE ALCON ReSTOR IOL

Other procedures that can be used to reduce the patient's need for glasses includes cataract surgery where an artificial implant matching the patient's prescription is inserted into the eye.   During the removal of the cataractous lens, a new artificial lens is usually placed ( see our section on cataract surgery).  We now have the ability to implant lenses, like the Acrysoft Toric IOL, than can correct corneal astigmatism that before required glasses or toric contact lens.  As a result, after surgery many patients will be less dependent on glasses for driving.   As an alternative, we can also place a bifocal ALCON ReSTOR IOL, which will allow the patient to see both far to drive and read without the use of glasses.   Please call our office for an appointment to determine if you are a candidate for these premium lenses that will reduce your need for glasses.
