- Test each eye separately.
- Do the test in an evenly lit room while wearing the glasses you use for reading.
- The Amsler Grid test should be performed at a comfortable reading distance away from your open eye, usually about 12-14 inches. If you are doing the test on the computer, sit/stand about 12-14 inches away from the screen, making sure the screen is at eye level.
- Cover one eye completely.
- With your open eye, look at the dot at the center of the Amsler Grid.
- Keep looking at the dot with one eye and answer the following questions. Then repeat the test with your other eye. You can record your answers on the chart, below.
Do any of the lines look wavy, blurred or distorted? (All lines should be straight, all intersections should form right angles and all the squares should be the same size.)
